Transport Month 2019

During this month South African Government and specifically the Department of Transport and its entities will showcase transport infrastructure services in aviation; maritime; public transport and roads. This month will also be used to further advance the country’s road safety initiatives, while also creating awareness of the economic benefits of the sector.

South African investments in the transport sector are aimed at stimulating development and creating jobs as part of the country’s Nine-Point Plan. These investments will ensure that South Africa build an integrated public transport network across the country.

South African investments in rail, roads and public transport is changing the way people access their places of work, study and entertainment.  These investments will also help to grow our economy, and address the challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality.

October was declared Transport Month in 2005 during the Transport Lekgotla. It is used to raise awareness on the important role of transport in the economy and to encourage participation from civil society and business, including the provision of a safe and more affordable, accessible and reliable transport system in the country.

South Africa to host the Ninth Session of the Bi-National Commission with the Federal Republic of Nigeria

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, will host her counterpart, the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, on Wednesday, 02 October 2019, in Pretoria.

The two ministers will co-chair the Ninth Ministerial Session of the Bi-National Commission between the Republic of South Africa and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

18th Summit of the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM)  

South Africa will be participating the 18th Ministerial Meeting and Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 23-26 October 2019 under the theme:
“NAM Baku Summit: Upholding the Bandung Principles to ensure concerted and adequate response to the challenges of the contemporry world”.

The South African delegation looks forward to engaging with Azerbaijan and NAM members on strengthening the principles of the NAMS’s founding Bandung principles.

The Summit will be preceded by a Preparatory Ministerial Meeting on October 23-24, 2019 and Preparatory Senior Officials Meeting (SoM) on October 21-22, 2019.

South African Embassy in Ankara will participate at the 18th Summit Conference of the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM) with Ambassador Malefane and his team to assist the South African Delegation.

The 2019 Rugby World Cup

The ninth Rugby World Cup started in Japan on 20 September and will last on 2 November 2019. This will be the first time the tournament held in Asia, and outside the traditional heartland of rugby union. Japan shines as a host in a spectacular opening ceremony, packed stadia and fan zones, record broadcast and social media figures.

The opening week of Asia’s first Rugby World Cup delivered unforgettable moments as ‘rugby mania’ has gripped Japan – never has a host nation been so engaged.

On the field, Japan 2019 is the first Rugby World Cup opening week where match scores have been below 50 points, while Uruguay caused the rankings upset of the week in defeating Fiji on a symbolic and special day in Kamaishi.

Also congratulations to South African Springboks beating our neighbours Namibia 57-3 in the RWC2019.
