SOUTH AFRICA'S AMBASSADOR TO TURKEY H.E. BERTHA DIPUO LETSATSI-DUBA, UNDERTOOK A WORKING VISIT TO BURSA FROM THE 23-25 FEBRUARY 2022

Textiles and apparel have long been identified as a strategic priority for South Africa’s industrial policy and support programmes. As part of South Africa’s Economic Recovery Plan, the stimulus aims to create new employment, provide livelihood support and protect existing jobs in vulnerable sectors. The textiles and apparel sector can create jobs and initiates further industrialization and assist in the recovery and economic stimulation process.

The textile and apparel industry is a key engine for growth and employment. Due to its labour-intensive nature.

South Africa’s Ambassador to Turkey H.E. Bertha Dipuo Letsatsi Duba, undertook a planned working visit to Bursa from 23 to 25 February 2022. This visit was part of the South African Embassy’s plan to contribute to the positive achievement of the Economic Recovery Plan. The Embassy led by the Ambassdor met with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and several companies in the textile and furniture sectors, which are the sectors identified in the Economic Recovery Plan.

As part of the visit the Mission paid a courtesy call on the Mayor and Governor of Bursa, it had a meeting with the Bursa Textile and Apparel chamber on possible collaboration with South African companies and South African Chambers. The mission also visited industrial zones and assembly lines.

Turkey is one of central countries in the global textile and apparel industry, In 2020 Turkey ranked fourth as one of the largest exporters of textiles worldwide, accounting for almost 3.3 percent of all exports. As for Bursa, it is the centre for the textile industry in Turkey, the city has always been a leading performer and has continued to be a crucial trade centre since the Ottoman Empire.

The Working Visit to Bursa is an ideal platform in for the development of already existing business relations, establishment of new connections and partnerships, as well as for the promotion of South Africa as a reliable partner and investment destination

Ambassador Duba’s first day of the working visit to Bursa concluded with a visit to the BUTGEM, Bursa Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation.

HE Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba attended a meeting with Vice President of Bursa Chamber of Industry, BTSO and the Board Members on 24 February 2022.

HE Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba undertook a working visit to Bursa from the 22-25 February 2022, as part of the visit H.E met with the Mayor and Governor of Bursa.

HE Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba further visited furniture and textile-garment factories and companies, which included; Massif Furniture with Mr Durmuş Kumru, Mobi Furniture with Mr Talip Bulut, Asya Dokuma with Mr Bayram Uçkun, Konyalilar Textile with Mr Emre Egri and final HE Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba visited Selimoğlu Furniture and met Mr Süleyman Yılmaz in Bursa.
