Bilateral Trade Relations

Turkey is one of South Africa’s largest trade and investment partner in Central and Eastern Europe. Bilateral trade volume between SA and Turkey increased by 42% and reached to US$ 1,404 billion for the period of Jan-Dec 2021 which was US$ 982 million for the same period of 2020.


During Jan-Dec 2021, the top 10 South African export products to Türkiye were as follows;

Iron ores and concentrates, incl. roasted iron pyrites; Centrifuges, incl. centrifugal dryers (excluding those for isotope separation); Reaction initiators, reaction accelerators and catalytic preparations; Chromium ores and concentrates; Flat-rolled products of stainless steel, of a width of >= 600 mm, hot-rolled or cold-rolled; Photographic cameras, photographic flashlight apparatus and flashbulbs; Compression-ignition internal combustion piston engine "diesel or semi-diesel engine"; Flours, meals and pellets, of meat or meat offal, of fish or of crustaceans; Coal; briquettes, ovoids and similar solid fuels manufactured from coal; Pig iron and spiegeleisen, in pigs, blocks or other primary forms; Tanning extracts of vegetable origin; tannins and their salts, ethers, esters and other derivatives


In 2021, the top 10 products imported by South Africa from Turkey included the following;

Petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (excluding crude); Flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, of a width >= 600 mm, hot-rolled, not clad; Commodities not elsewhere specified; Parts and accessories for tractors, motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons; Motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons; Household or laundry-type washing machines, incl. machines which both wash and dry; Copper wire (excluding surgical sutures, stranded wire, cables, plaited bands; New pneumatic tyres, of rubber; Tractors (other than tractors of heading 8709); Dishwashing machines; machinery for cleaning or drying bottles or other containers; Refrigerators, freezers and other refrigerating or freezing equipment, electric or other.
