Heritage Day 2014
24 September 2014
September is celebrated as Heritage Month and Heritage Day is celebrated in South Africa every year on 24 September. Heritage Month recognises and celebrates the cultural wealth of the nation. South Africans celebrate the day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa.
The theme for this year’s Heritage Month is “Celebrating 20 Years of Democracy: Tell your story that moves South Africa Forward!" The theme encourages South Africans to tell their stories as part of celebrating 20 years of Freedom and Democracy.
South Africa is a country with a great story to tell, a story of struggle and victory and a commitment to work together to foster nation building and social cohesion. The Heritage Month is celebrated with a number of events, including literature, music, photo exhibitions, an Oral History Conference and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, amongst others.
